How the guide works

Where this guide's facts come from

Every number on this site comes from a published source, preferably the venue or an official body. When sources disagree or say nothing, the page says so rather than guessing. All pages were last checked in October 2026.

01Published sources first

The guide starts with what venues and official bodies publish. That means Parq's own site, Great Canadian's Hastings Casino page, BCLC and its GameSense pages, the Province of BC, and TransLink for anything on rails or wheels.

Directory and listing sites are read, but they are never trusted alone. If a figure appears only there, the guide leaves it out or describes it without the number.

02When sources disagree

Conflicting figures are not averaged, and the guide does not pick a favourite. For example, published hours for Hastings Casino vary from source to source, and none of them come from the operator's own page. So the Hastings page says that and sends readers to Great Canadian.

Parq's own site says it has "hundreds" of slot machines, so that is the figure the guide uses. When a reader would expect a detail that is not published, such as prices or the hours of a restaurant inside a casino, the page says the venue publishes it and links to the official site.

03Open or closed, in Pacific time

The open-or-closed note on the home page uses Pacific time and the hours the venue publishes. If a venue does not publish its hours, the note says so instead of showing a status. Holiday hours were not found for either Vancouver casino, so check the venue before setting out on a statutory holiday.

04Distances

The guide's own distances are straight-line. Walking routes are longer, and they feel longer again in November rain.

When a venue publishes its own figure, the guide credits it to the venue. Parq, for instance, lists Stadium–Chinatown Station at 850 m. For door-to-door planning, use TransLink. The SkyTrain and bus page explains what is and is not confirmed.

05Keeping pages current

Pages are checked against their sources and dated. The current round was completed in October 2026. Some recent changes:

  • Hastings ended live thoroughbred racing on December 5, 2025. Race-day details were removed. The casino and the simulcast racebook continue.
  • On April 13, 2026, the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch became the Independent Gambling Control Office. Pages now name the IGCO as the regulator.
  • The agreed sale of Hastings Casino to Tsleil-Waututh Nation could not be confirmed as closed. The guide says that rather than naming a new operator early.

06What the guide does not claim

The guide does not claim any visits, phone calls, interviews or tests. Everything here comes from published sources.

This site is not a casino, takes no bets and has no accounts. Inner pages carry no ads; the advertising page explains the rest. Gambling in BC is for adults 19 and over.

If gambling has stopped being fun, Gambling Support BC is free and open 24/7 at 1-888-795-6111. There is more on the support page.
